My move to the District of Columbia solidified my interest in local politics. Though the media bombards us with national events, truly it is the local government that affects us directly and it is the local government where we have the most input. Undoubtedly, the local government affects our immediate daily life -- for example, issues involving economic development, schools, crime, parking, public transportation and the like are all local. Like the late Thomas Phillip "Tip" O'Neill, Jr., I understand that "all politics is local." So after considerable reflection, I made the decision to run for a Commissioner seat on the Advisory Neighborhood Commission for Ward 6 Single Member District 6D02. By way of introduction, my name is Damon C. Patton. I am candidate on the November 6, 2012 ballot and I want to help improve my neighborhood and the City I now call home.
